# UnionTerminal > Free desktop workspace for tiling CLI sessions — Windows and macOS. Built for developers who run multiple PowerShell/WSL shells and AI agents (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot) and are tired of tab blindness, alt-tab file whiplash, and losing track of which terminal is blocked. > Positioning: UnionTerminal is "the app for the humans running AI tools," not an AI product itself. It does not train or resell models, meter tokens, or take a cut of API usage. The pitch is anti-hype and pro-human — "built for the human in the loop," "a union of humans and their tools," "stop replacing humans, start equipping them." See the manifesto at https://www.unionterminal.app/manifesto ## Summary UnionTerminal organizes many terminal sessions in one window: tiled layouts, Satellite mode (float any session into its own pinnable window, or collapse it to a small floating Beacon chip), sidebar status dots, inline file preview (DocView), clipboard screenshots with annotation (paste or drag a screenshot to drop its file path into the prompt for tools like Claude Code), hide/restore without killing shells, scroll-to-bottom when reviewing output, searchable Settings (clear scrollback sync, terminal scrollbar size), and optional anonymous usage sharing (off by default). It does not replace your shells or AI tools — it manages them. ## Who it's for - **Multi-agent developers** — Cursor + Claude Code + tests in parallel; need to see which session is waiting on a prompt - **Windows CLI users** — PowerShell 7, CMD, Git Bash, WSL in one workspace without juggling Windows Terminal tabs - **Vibe coders / visual workflows** — annotate screenshots and drop them into the correct agent, not the last-focused tab - **Power users** — color-coded groups, persisted layout after quit/update, scheduler for queued terminal messages ## Key facts - Price: free, no account required - Platforms: Windows 10+ (x64), macOS 12+ (Apple Silicon and Intel; macOS beta) - Version: 1.0.65 - Publisher: Robot in the Loop (https://iamtherobot.io) - Privacy: local-first by default — no commands, file paths, clipboard, or terminal output collected unless user opts in to coarse usage sharing ## Primary links - Homepage: https://www.unionterminal.app/ - Manifesto / positioning (why Union, anti-hype, human-in-the-loop): https://www.unionterminal.app/manifesto - FAQ (full): https://www.unionterminal.app/#faq - AI coding landing (search/keyword intent — scenarios for Cursor, Claude Code, multi-agent): https://www.unionterminal.app/ai-coding - User guide: https://www.unionterminal.app/guide - Changelog: https://www.unionterminal.app/changelog - Keyboard shortcuts: https://www.unionterminal.app/shortcuts - Privacy policy: https://www.unionterminal.app/privacy - Download (latest): https://github.com/Robot-in-the-Loop-Technology-Inc/union-releases/releases/latest ## Pain points vs normal terminals Q: Why not just use Windows Terminal or iTerm tabs? A: Tabs hide blocked agents and long-running jobs. UnionTerminal tiles sessions in a grid, shows status dots (yellow = waiting for input), and lets you hide sessions without killing shells. Q: How do I know which terminal needs my input? A: Sidebar status dots: green = active output, yellow = waiting for input, gray = idle. Q: Can I preview a file without leaving the terminal? A: Click a file path in any session to preview in DocView when the file exists. Shift+click when the path cannot be resolved. Highlight + Shift+click when auto-detect misses. Ctrl+click (⌘ on Mac) opens in your default app. Ctrl+F searches in-document. URLs: click opens in browser; Alt+click copies. Shell integration (PowerShell, bash, zsh) tracks live cwd for relative paths. Q: How do I send a screenshot to Claude Code or Cursor? A: Clipboard rail (Ctrl+Shift+K) — capture, annotate, click or drag into the terminal that should receive it. Q: Can I pop a terminal into its own floating window? A: Yes — Satellite mode launches any session into a floating window with full CLI fidelity (nothing simplified). Pin it on top, it ghosts/fades when unfocused, shows live cwd and git branch, and docks back to the grid with Ctrl+Shift+D (⌘⇧D on Mac). Ctrl+Alt+S summons or hides all Satellites; up to five at once. Collapse a Satellite to a Beacon — a small pinned chip showing its live status light and session colour — then click it to expand back; Beacons survive sleep/wake and follow you to your primary screen when you unplug an external monitor. Works on Windows and macOS. Q: Does my workspace survive quit, crash, or update? A: Session names, groups, colors, and layout restore on relaunch. Auto-update is one click. ## AI coding landing page Purpose: inbound page for search/AI citations about running Cursor, Claude Code, or multiple agents — not a duplicate homepage. Download and full FAQ live on https://www.unionterminal.app/ Q: Can I run Cursor and Claude Code in the same window? A: Yes — one tiled panel per agent. UnionTerminal does not replace either tool. Q: I have too many agent tabs — what is different? A: All sessions visible in a grid with status dots; no hunting through tabs for the yellow prompt. Q: Does UnionTerminal read my prompts or API keys? A: No by default. Optional anonymous feature counts only if enabled in Settings. ## Shells & platform Q: Which shells work on Windows? A: PowerShell 7, CMD, Git Bash, WSL — pick per terminal; custom shells via browse. Q: What platforms are supported? A: Windows 10+ x64; macOS 12+ (Apple Silicon and Intel, beta). Q: Is usage data collected? A: Off by default. See privacy policy for opt-in sharing and site download beacon. ## Sitemap https://www.unionterminal.app/sitemap.xml
